Thanks to the generous support of all our donors, Chris and Stewart are in Miami and have completed their second day of races!
"Today was exhausting. Five races in very mentally tough conditions with 20 degree shifts up and down the course means you had to be on top of your race. They can do this but as I mentioned must get the advantage with the starts. Tomorrow they race for the worlds spot. It's a all or nothing day. Look for the boys to rock the start." - Steve Mcbride, Coach.
Thank you for your generous support!
The Pacific Sailing Team supports Royal Canadian Sea Cadets from British Columbia with opportunities for further race training above and beyond that provided by the Sea Cadet program. Sea Cadets is open to youth ages 12 to 18.
The Pacific Sailing Team currently has two members, Chris Volkers and Stewart Clark who, by placing 3rd in the 420 class at the Canadian U19 National Regatta in August 2013, have earned support from Sail Canada to race at the US mid-Winter regatta in Florida as a step towards competing at the Youth World Championship in Travia, Portugal.
While Chris and Stewart have been trained and supported by Sea Cadet program thus far, this next level of competition is beyond the scope of the core program and thus the need to seek outside support for this extraordinary opportunity to train and compete at an international level.
Chris Volkers and Stewart Clark have had a banner year in 2013 placing 2nd at the Cadet National Sail regatta for the second year in a row. With three first place finishes in the BC circuit regattas they came third overall in the BC circuit sail regattas for 420 class. The 3rd place finish at Canadian youth nationals in August set them on the path of more intense training towards US Midwinters. On water, focus on improving overall fitness and study of tactic are all part of the training plan to set them on a road of success.
Support for Chris and Stewart paves the path for future cadets continued excellence in sailing. Thank you for your support.
